Swans klubbspelning på Way out West var en tudelad upplevelse. Konserten var för kort och volymen mesig. Nya plattan som Michael Gira säger sammanfattar allt han gjort i 30 år – både med Swans och soloprojektet Angels of Light – är däremot en mäktig, två timmar lång färd in i ett konsekvent, fysiskt sound. Det finns låtar som utgår från bandets rötter i No Wave och Glenn Branca-symfonier, dronefloder, maniska rytmer, gästspel från Low, ex-Swans-sångerskan Jarboe och Karen O från Yeah Yeah Yeahs sjunger en ballad. De långa låtarna – titelspåret är över en halvtimma – är massiva, organiska monster. Michael Gira & Swans bygger nytt, utvecklas, musik som pekar framåt, uppslukar allt i sin väg.
